Estas no son
las aguas del olvido.
Nieve remota y próxima
como un niño dormido,
para la piel, negada,
a los ojos suplicio,
blanca porque el ciprés
y el delicado mirto
urdieron a la sombra
cenadores y nidos;
alta porque la fuente
apenas alza el tibio
rumor de un surtidor
desmayado en sí mismo
con aguas que no son
las del olvido.
Lo proclama la flor
abierta en el camino

These are not
the waters of oblivion.
Snow remote and close
like a sleeping child,
to the skin, denied,
torment for the eyes,
white because cypress
and delicate myrtle
devised in shadow
arbors and nests;
High since the fountain
barely raises the mild
murmur of a spout
faintly falling with
waters that are not
those of oblivion.
This the flower proclaims
open on the path.
