This story features the further adventures of Thomas Covenant which began in "Lord Fouls Bane". Forty years have passed, and Lord Foul, immortal enemy of the land, has moved to fulfil his prophecy of doom. In desperation Lord Elena turns to Covenant and the white gold magic of his ring.
